Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows 2008 Final Release

Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista is an update to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. It provides customer and partner feedback-driven fixes into a single service pack, minimizing deployment and testing complexity. In addition to all previously released updates since SP1, SP2supports new types of hardware, and adds support for several emerging standards.

Microsoft released SP2 Release Candidate for Vista and Server 2008

Microsoft announced the release of the Service Pack 2 Release Candidate (Build 6002.1667.090130) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 to users who are willing to test it. Testers who are keen to have a glance to this RC can download it via Windows Update either as a standalone installer or as a slipstreamed version for selected languages, e.g. English, Spanish, German, French, and Japanese. This pre-release software is not meant for public users. Public users are advised to wait for the final release which is expected to be released in April.

SP2 is an update to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 that addresses feedback from customers and partners. In addition to all previously released updates, SP2 will contain changes focused on addressing reliability and performance issues, supporting new kinds of hardware, and adding support for several emerging standards.

Vista SP2 Release Candidate to Ship This Week

The Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista is being released this week in a candidate escrow build after Microsoft has moved up its release schedule for the software. The initial wave of the software is now expected to be released a little sooner than previously expected, now at sometime late in April or early in May in its Release to Manufacturing version if no further delays are incurred. In-between, the final release candidate build is now due to be distributed on February 16th.

SP2 includes support for new hardware and emerging standards. The update will allow users to record Blu-ray media natively, have an updated Bluetooth 2.1 feature pack, and add Windows Search 4.0 for faster and more efficient file finding, among others in Windows Vista. It will also support 64-bit processors from VIA and improve Wi-Fi performance after returning from sleep mode. New capabilities will be added to DirectX, with audio and video performance enhanced to better handle high-definition content.

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Pre-Beta 6002.16489 Released

Microsoft has started to release Windows Vista Service Pack 2 pre-beta to selected beta testers. Similar to how the Windows Vista SP1 is distributed previously while in beta stage, Microsoft is still using the testers’ computer’s GUID identification status and a batch command script to release Windows Vista SP2 through Windows Update instead of manual downloading.

Before installing Windows Vista Service Pack 2, a hotfix KB955430 Servicing Stack Update will be installed to ensure that the future update and installation of SP2 into all editions of Windows Vista SP2 can be done successfully and without error.
